In the Name of ALLAH
In the Name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Dear brothers & sisters,
* The sin for which the sinners will be punished in the grave
1- Punishment for the one who learnt the Qur'an & refused to act upon it, & for sleeping through the prescribed prayers.
2- Punishment for lying.
3- Punishment for adulterers {one who commits adultery} & adulteresses.
4- Punishment for consuming Riba (usury).
For the above 4 points i have already mentioned the Hadith related to it in the 58th lecture {the dream of the Prophet (Peace be upon him), in which he saw different ppl being punished for different sins..like lying etc}
5- Punishment for not cleaning oneself properly after urinating.
6- The Kafir's punishment is increased because of some of his family's weeping for him.
7- The dead person is punished by the mourners wailing for him.
8- Punishment of the one who used to go around spreading slander {Oral communication of false
statements injurious to a person's reputation}, to reduce the (number of) obligatory prayers.
* Deeds which will benefit the deceased {dead} after his death
1- Praying for him. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'If a company of Muslims numbering one hundred pray over a dead person, all of them interceding for him, their intercessing [i.e. prayers for forgiveness & mercy] for him will be accepted.
2- The deceased {the dead} feels the comforting presence of his brothers in ALLAH (Subhana wa ta’ala) after the burial, for a period of time equal to the time taken to sacrifice a camel & distribute its meat.
3- Praying for strength & forgiveness for him immediately after his burial.
4- The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'When a person dies, his deeds stop, except for 3: continuous charity, knowledge which benefits others, or a pious son who will pray for him.' [Muslim].
5- Charity given by the son of the deceased {dead} on his/her behalf {parents behalf}.
6- ALLAH, Subhana Wa Ta'ala says: "And those who came after them say: 'Our Lord! Forgive
us, & our brethren who cam before us into the Faith." [Surat al-Hashr 59:10]
This means that you shouldnt only pray for yourself or your family. It wont cost anything to say: 'O ALLAH! Forgive us & our Brethren who came before us into the Faith.
The Messenger of ALLAH (Peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever prays for forgiveness for the believing men & women, ALLAH will give him one reward for each believing man & woman (he prayed for).
7- The Messenger of ALLAH (Peace be upon him) said: 'When a person dies his good deeds come to an end, excpet for defending the borders of Islam for the sake of ALLAH (fi sabilillah). This deed will grow (that is the reward) until the Day of Judgement, & he will be protected from the Fitnah of the grave. [Abu Da'ud, al-Tirmidhi]
Jazak ALLAH.
